Cowboys Seventh After Day One Of Regional Play

URBANA, Ill. – Oklahoma State's men's golf team opened play at the NCAA Urbana Regional on Monday with a 286 total to stand alone in seventh place at Atkins Golf Club.
The second-ranked Cowboys' 2-over tally put them one shot behind Marquette and Long Beach State for fifth place. Tournament host Illinois grabbed a two-shot lead at the par 71, 7,533-yard layout with its 277 total.
Illinois' Jackson Buchanan built a four-shot lead with his opening 63.
Gaven Lane led OSU's starting five with a 69 to share sixth place. The sophomore opened with a birdie at the first before making the turn at even par 36. He birdied the 11th and 12th before carding six pars in a row to close out his round.
Freshman Filip Fahlberg-Johnsson opened with a 71 to stand in a tie for 19th place.
Sophomore Ethan Fang finished the day tied for 33rd place with his opening 73. Also among the group tied for 33rd place was classmate Preston Stout.
Sophomore Eric Lee posted an opening 76 to finish the day tied for 57th place.
The Cowboys will begin their second round tomorrow at 8:55 a.m. (CST) and will be grouped with Illinois State and Pacific.
