Cowgirl Softball run rules Iowa State to tie up series
April 12, 2025 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER — Strong pitching from RyLee Crandall and Katie Kutz plus sustained offensive pressure lifted the No. 17 Oklahoma State softball team to a 10-1 run-rule victory over Iowa State Saturday at Cowgirl Stadium.
The Cowgirls improved to 24-13 on the season and 6-6 in the Big 12, while the Cyclones dropped to 19-18 overall and 8-6 in the conference.
Crandall (2-2) allowed only one earned run in 4.1 innings of work and Kutz came on to hold Iowa State scoreless for the final 1.2 innings to seal the win. The duo combined to strike out five and walk only two in the contest.
The Cyclones opened the scoring in the second inning with a solo home run from Sydney Malott that barely eluded the glove of left fielder Tia Warsop, who nearly robbed the home run with a leaping attempt.
Oklahoma State tallied seven runs in the next three innings to push the game into run rule territory. The Cowgirls grabbed two runs in the second thanks to an RBI groundout from Karli Godwin to score Tallen Edwards and an error from the Cyclones which allowed Rosie Davis to cross home. Davis singled home Megan Bloodworth in the fourth, and Rachael Hathoot struck her first home run of the season in the fifth inning to extend the lead to three. Megan Bloodworth then blasted a three-run homer to put OSU up by six runs.
Lexi McDonald ended the game via run rule in the sixth inning with a walk-off home run with Hathoot and pinch runner Tara Vandewater on base.
Iowa State starter Jaiden Ralston dropped to 5-6 after allowing two runs in 2.2 innings of work. The Cowgirls did most of their damage against the Cyclone bullpen, tacking on eight runs in 3.0 innings against ISU relievers.
Offensive standouts for Oklahoma State included Bloodworth (2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs), McDonald (1-for-1 with a home run and three RBIs) and Hathoot (1-for-2 with a home run and an RBI.)
Rosie Davis tied her career hits record with three hits on the day.
The Cowgirls return to action at noon tomorrow for the series finale. The game will be live streamed on ESPN+ and can be heard on the Varsity Network app.
