April 01, 2025 | Cowgirl Tennis
IRVING, Texas – Rose Marie Nijkamp of the Oklahoma State women's tennis team was named the Big 12 Player of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
This is the first time in Nijkamp's career that she has earned the honor, and she joins Anastasiya Komar, who garnered the award last week, as the only Cowgirls to do so this season.
Playing at the No. 1 doubles and No. 4 singles positions, Nijkamp went 3-0 on the weekend to help Oklahoma State earn two ranked victories and extend its win streak to seven. The Netherlands native leads all Big 12 freshmen with 12 singles wins and has yet to lose a match in conference play.
In Friday's win over No. 37 TCU, Nijkamp and Komar earned their highest-ranked doubles win of the season, dominating No. 18 Jade Otway and Isabel Pascual, 6-1. Nijkamp would then go on to clinch the OSU win in singles, coming back to beat Yu-Chin Tsai, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.
The freshman carried the momentum into Sunday's shutout win against No. 22 Baylor, logging another impressive doubles victory with Komar, beating No. 24 Liubov Kostenko and Cristina Tiglea, 6-1. In singles, Nijkamp was headed to a third set with Zuzanna Kubacha when play was stopped due to the Oklahoma State sweep.
Nijkamp and Komar are now 15-2 on the season and reached a season-best ranking of No. 6 in Tuesday's ITA doubles poll. The pair has won seven consecutive matches and is up to five ranked wins on the year.
The Cowgirls are back at home this week for the final time during the regular season, first taking on Utah on Thursday at 5 p.m. before hosting No. 55 BYU on Saturday at 1 p.m., with senior day festivities to follow the match.
