MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – Oklahoma State's No. 33 ranked women's tennis team swept West Virginia without dropping a set on Friday in Morgantown, West Virginia.
With the win, the Cowgirls improve to 8-6 on the season and 2-1 in conference play. It also extends OSU's win streak in conference road matches to nine and makes it 11-0 all-time against the Mountaineers.
Oklahoma State got on the board first by taking the doubles point. To begin, the No. 69 pairing of Anastasiya Komar and Rose Marie Nijkamp beat Millie Haagensen and Julie Bousseau, 6-2, before Gracie Epps and Melisa Ercan defeated Maja Dodik and Lyla Byers, 6-4, to earn the point.
In singles, the Cowgirls got wins on the top three courts to finish off the sweep. No. 81 Komar was the first to finish, beating Bousseau, 6-1, 6-2, followed by Nijkamp defeating Michaela Kucharova, 6-4, 6-2. Ercan provided the match-clincher on court one, taking down Haagensen 6-3, 6-1, for her first career collegiate win.
Three matches went unfinished, with two stopping early in the first set due to there only being four courts available. No. 49 Epps led Dodik, 6-2, 3-4, while No. 105 Macela Lopez was ahead of Byers and Alian Zack trailed Susannah Su, 0-1.
The Cowgirls will now head to Cincinnati for an 11 a.m. match on Sunday as they look for back-to-back road wins for the first time this season.
