March 25, 2025 | Cowgirl Tennis
IRVING, Texas – Anastasiya Komar of Oklahoma State's women's tennis team was named the Big 12 Player of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
This is the second time in her career that Komar has won the award, and she becomes the first Cowgirl to earn the honor this season. The redshirt junior went 4-0 in two OSU wins over top-40 opponents over the weekend, including two ranked wins herself.
In Friday's victory over No. 35 Arizona State, Komar used dominant second and third sets to come back and beat No. 33 Emilija Tverijonaite, 0-6, 6-1, 6-2. She also got a doubles win against the Sun Devils, pairing with Rose Marie Nijkamp to take down the No. 36 tandem of Lily Taylor and Patricija Spaka, 6-1.
Komar took her momentum into Sunday against No. 35 Arizona, collecting two more wins. In singles, she outlasted Martyna Ostrzygalo, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2, while picking up a 6-3 win over Danielle Tuhten and Josie Usereau in doubles, again playing with Nijkamp.
The Belarus native is now 10-5 in singles and 13-2 in doubles on the season while extending win streaks to five in both over the weekend. She currently sits at No. 81 in the ITA singles rankings and No. 39 with Nijkamp in the doubles poll.
Oklahoma State improved to 12-6 on the season and 6-1 in conference play with its pair of wins over the weekend and rose to No. 26 in the ITA team rankings earlier today. The Cowgirls will look to extend their five-match win streak this week as they hit the road to face No. 37 TCU on Friday and No. 22 Baylor on Sunday.
