Cowboy Baseball Drops Series Opener

SALT LAKE CITY – Oklahoma State was shut out for the first time this season as the Cowboys dropped an 11-0 contest to Utah Friday night at Smith's Ballpark.
With the loss, the Cowboys fell to 10-9 overall and 0-2 in Big 12 play, while Utah is now 12-8 and 1-3 in the conference.
Hunter Watson took the loss on the mound for the Pokes to fall to 3-1. The right-hander allowed three runs on five hits in 3 2/3 innings; he also recorded three strikeouts and three walks.
Offensively, the Cowboys tallied five hits and struck out 13 times.
Utah took the lead in the fourth when Derek Smith delivered a three-run home run to left field with two outs and increased their advantage to 4-0 in the fifth on a two-out RBI single by Austen Roellig.
The Utes tacked on six more runs to go up 10-0 in the seventh, with the big blow in the inning another three-run homer off the bat of Smith.
The two teams resume the series Saturday at 3 p.m. (CDT).
