The Series - A Return to the Sunshine State
Saturday's game marks the second meeting between Oklahoma State and UCF, with UCF winning the first game in Orlando in 2023. This season marks the third year the schools have been members of the same conference. Although the Cowboys have faced the Knights just once before, OSU has made several other trips to the Sunshine State. This matchup marks OSU's 11th game in program history played in the state of Florida, and it has gone 5-5 in its previous trips. Past games have included regular season matchups with Florida State (1978), Florida (1990), Miami (1991), FAU (2005) and UCF (2023), as well bowl games against BYU (1976 Tangerine Bowl), South Carolina (1984 Gator Bowl), Florida State (1985 Gator Bowl), Virginia Tech (2017 Camping World Bowl) and Miami (2020 Cheez-It Bowl). Oklahoma State holds a 3-1 all-time record in Orlando. OSU interim coach Doug Meacham is in his first season as head coach, and UCF coach Scott Frost has not faced Oklahoma State during his career as a head coach.
In the Rankings
Oklahoma State is not ranked, but the Cowboys have been ranked at some point in every season from 2008-24. Through the 2024 season, Oklahoma State has been ranked in the top 15 of the Associated Press poll in 15 of the past 17 seasons and has reached the top 10 in 11 of those 17 years. It's also worth noting that OSU has been part of the CFP rankings in eight of the past 10 seasons entering 2025. The Cowboys have also been included in 43 of the all-time CFP Rankings, which ranks among the most appearances in the country. UCF is not ranked.
Boone Pickens Stadium Named the Best in the Country
Oklahoma State's Boone Pickens Stadium is the best college football stadium in the country according to USA TODAY, which used reviews from Yelp, Tripadvisor and Google to compile college football stadium rankings for 2025. In more than 1,700 combined reviews between the three services, Boone Pickens Stadium has an average of 4.8 stars to edge out Kansas State's Bill Snyder Family Stadium and Alabama's Bryant-Denny Stadium for the top spot among the 136 FBS venues.
Oklahoma State from a Distance
Oklahoma State has two games remaining in its 2025 campaign, with one on the road at UCF and another at home against Iowa State. In last week's 14-6 loss against Kansas State, the Cowboys outgained the Wildcats by nearly a hundred yards. OSU also held KSU to 284 offensive yards to mark the fewest for an OSU conference opponent since 2021. That game also marked the seventh career game as a head coach for interim head coach Doug Meacham. It was also the sixth game as interim defensive coordinator for former quality control coach Clint Bowen, who was elevated to the position September 28. The Cowboys are comprised of a majority of newcomers, as 62 of the 114 players on the roster (54%) were not part of the team in December. Through 10 games, 21 of OSU's players with at least one start are newcomers. Bright spots have included redshirt freshman running back Rodney Fields Jr., who recorded 163 rushing yards against Cincinnati to rank as the fifth-most for a freshman in a game in school history, and edge rusher Wendell Gregory, who was named a semifinalist for the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award.
