October 06, 2025 | Cowgirl Soccer
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State dropped Monday night's game to BYU by a score of 4-1 at Neal Patterson Stadium.
With the loss, the Cowgirls fell to 4-7-2 overall and 0-4-1 in Big 12 play, while BYU improved to 7-3-2 and 2-2-1 in the league.
BYU were early aggressors in the match, recording 12 shots and six shots-on-goal in the first half compared to OSU's five and one.
The Cougars opened the scoring in the 26th minute on a strike from Lucy Kesler that came from outside of the box and found the top-right corner of the net outside the extended reach of Logan Marks. It was Kesler's first goal of the season.
OSU answered back in the 31st minute, as Taryn Thibeau delivered a free kick that caused chaos in the Cougar net. BYU keeper Paiton Collins got a hand on the ball, but Madi Asel raced in and kicked in the deflected loose ball for her first collegiate goal. The assist was Thibeau's fourth of the year, the most of any Cowgirl.
The flurry of goals continued when, 30 seconds later, BYU reclaimed the lead on Ellie Walbruch's fifth goal of the season that was assisted by Presley Freeman.
BYU took the one-goal lead into intermission, and the score remained 2-1 until the 82nd minute when Mattyn Summers-Oviatt scored her first goal of the season on an assist from Mia Goettsche. The Cougars added their final score on Kesler's second goal in the 88th minute.
In total, BYU outshot OSU, 26-10, led in shots-on-goal by an 11-3 count and had six corner kicks compared to the Cowgirls' four.
OSU returns to action Friday at 6 p.m. when the Cowgirls host Kansas State at Neal Patterson Stadium.
