STILLWATER (AP) — Abou Ousmane supplied 27 points and Brandon Newman notched his 1,000th in Oklahoma State's 79-66 victory over Kansas State on Tuesday evening inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
The Cowboys (9-5, 1-2 Big 12) scored the last 15 points of the first half to go into the locker room up 43-24 and kept the lead in double-figures the rest of the way.
Ousmane was 11-of-15 from the field in his first 20-point performance as a Cowboy.
Marchelus "Chi Chi" Avery added 13 points to go with 10 from Bryce Thompson.
Newman -- a graduate guard who played three seasons at Purdue and another at Western Kentucky -- tallied the last of his nine points on a free throw with 6:42 remaining in the second half to finish the evening at 1,000 on the nose.
The Cowboys shook loose from a two-game shooting slump by knocking down 9-of-21 threes (.429) and 47.5% overall. They scored 31 points off of 19 Wildcat turnovers while committing only 12.
Coleman Hawkins led Kansas State (7-7, 1-2 Big 12) with 18 points and David N'Guessan added 12 points and 12 rebounds.
In losses last week to Houston and West Virginia, OSU gave up runs of 17-1 and 16-2 to end the first half down double-digits. Tuesday night, the Cowboys turned the tables, mounting a 20-2 run over the final 6:00 to turn a 23-22 edge into a commanding 43-24 halftime lead.
OSU came up with defensive stops on 11 of the last 12 Kansas State possessions of the period.
The last four points of the half all came in the final second when Newman made two free throws and Khalil Brantley stole the inbound pass and beat the buzzer with a 15-foot jumper.
Avery's three-pointer upped the lead to 50-30 with 16:00 to play.
K-State closed to within 52-41 near the 13:00-mark on a Hawkins slam, but the Cowboys reeled off nine straight, starting with consecutive threes from Thompson and Newman.
Jennings made two free throws with 8:18 left to give OSU its largest lead of the night at 66-45.
The Wildcats have lost 13 straight true road games, including 10-in-a-row against Big 12 opponents.
OSU improved to 6-1 at home while snapping a seven-game Big 12 slide. The 13-point winning margin was the Cowboys' best since a 16-point win over Oklahoma on Jan. 18, 2023.
Next up for the Cowboys is a two-game road swing, beginning Saturday at Utah (6 p.m. CT) and continuing Tuesday night at BYU (8 p.m. CT). Both games will air on ESPN+.
