STILLWATER – Oklahoma State ranks among the top five football teams in the Big 12 with 27 student-athletes on the 2024 Academic All-Big 12 Team that was announced this week.
Including this season, the 10 highest totals for first-team Academic All-Big 12 selections in OSU football history have come in the past 10 years, as OSU had 13 in 2015, 12 in 2016, 20 in 2017, 13 in 2018, 16 in 2019, 28 in 2020, 28 in 2021, 29 in 2022, 29 in 2023 and 27 in 2024.
Jake Schultz and Jake Springfield were both honored with 4.0 GPAs, which ties OSU for the fourth-most in the conference. Only 22 Big 12 football players reached the mark this year, and it is the third time that Shultz has accomplished it in his career.
Several Cowboys received recognition for multiple times in their careers, highlighted by Schultz, Springfield and Preston Wilson, who are now five-time first team selections. Joe Michalski also received his fifth-straight recognition after he was included on the first team in 2024, 2023, 2022 and 2021 and the second team in 2020. OSU now has eight five-time academic all-conference football team members in its history.
Cale Cabbiness was named to the first team for a fourth-consecutive year to give OSU 22 four-time academic all-conference football players in program history.
Three Cowboys received their third career academic all-conference honor at OSU, including Aden Kelley, Parker Robertson and Logan Ward.
OSU's two-time honorees include Gabe Brown, Chance Clements, Kendal Daniels, Austin Kawecki, Garrick Martin, Luke McEndoo, Garret Rangel, Xavier Ross, Talyn Shettron, Quinton Stewart and Ty Williams.
First time OSU honorees include Alan Bowman, Ike Esonwune, Ollie Gordon II, Justin Kirkland, Cooper Lai, Wes Pahl, Jakobe Sanders and Dylan Smith.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
