September 26, 2024 | Cowgirl Soccer
PROVO, Utah – Oklahoma State picked up a conference point Thursday night with a 2-2 draw against BYU at South Field.
With the result, the 23rd-ranked Cowgirls are now 8-2-2 overall and 1-2-1 in Big 12 play, while the Cougars are 4-4-3 and 2-1-1 in the league.
Xcaret Pineda and Nicole Ray scored goals and tallied assists for OSU. The Cowgirls were outshot 22-10 in the match, but just six of BYU's attempts were on frame. The Cougars also owned a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.
BYU did not take long to get on the scoreboard as Presley Freeman found Mika Kroemmenhoek in the middle of the box where she delivered a shot into the net just 3:52 into the match.
The Cowgirls would get the equalizer prior to intermission. In the 31st minute, Ray delivered a corner kick into the box where Pineda was able to get a head on the ball and send it to the near post to tie the score at 1-1.
The next lead belonged to the Cowgirls as Ray put the visitors on top in the 73rd minute. Adelhia Ghonda sent a pass to Pineda, who launched a long cross into the box. A streaking Ray was able to get a touch on the ball off the bounce and send it over the head of BYU goalie Lynette Hernaez to make the score 2-1.
However, BYU would equalize less than three minutes later off a corner kick as a scramble in the box resulted in a goal by Mackenzee Vance to tie things up at 2-2 at the 75:11 mark.
OSU returns to action Sunday when they face Utah in Salt Lake City. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. (CDT).
