Cowboy Golf 10th After Day One At Olympia Fields

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – Oklahoma State's men's golf team opened play with a 284 on Friday during the first round of action at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational to stand in 10th place.

The Cowboys' 4-over tally put them just five shots out of second place on a tightly bunched leaderboard. Arizona State fired a 7-under 273 to lead by six shots over three teams tied for second place at 279. Florida State Illinois and Stanford were sixth at even-par 280.

ASU's Jose Luis Ballester and Georgia Tech's Benjamin Reuter shared the top spot in the individual race with matching 6-under 64s.

Sophomore transfer Ethan Fang continued his strong start to the fall season, firing a 2-under 28 to share third place. Starting on the second nine, Fang birdied the 11th and 15th before carding his lone bogey of the day at the 18th to turn in 1-under 34. He played the front nine bogey free with a birdie at the par-3 sixth hole.

Sophomore Preston Stout opened play with an even-par 70 to share 22nd place.

Freshman Filip Fahlberg-Johnsson bounced back from a 3-over opening nine with a 2-under 33 on the front side to finish with a 71 and tied for 32nd place.

Junior John Wild's 75 tied him for 61st, while sophomore Eric Lee carded a 76 and is tied for 67th place.
