Series History: Cowboys Host New Conference Opponent
September 20, 2024 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – In a top-15 battle, Oklahoma State and Utah will meet for the second time in program history on Saturday.
The first meeting took place on October 20, 1945, with the then-named Oklahoma A&M Aggies defeating the Utes, 46-6, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Former All-American and 2022 Cowboy Football Ring of Honor inductee Bob Fenimore accounted for four touchdowns in the win. He would go on to finish third in the Heisman Trophy voting that season before being selected first overall in the NFL Draft.
Oklahoma A&M would go on to finish 9-0 in 1945, winning the Sugar Bowl before claiming an AFCA National Championship.
Along with breaking a 79-year drought in the series, Saturday's game will also serve as Utah's first Big 12 Conference game. It will also be the first meeting between fellow 20th-year head coaches Mike Gundy and Kyle Whittingham, both of which rank among the top four active head coaches in total wins at their program.
Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. on Saturday at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater, with the game to be broadcast on FOX and carried live on the Cowboy Radio Network.
