Talyn Shettron: Light at the end of the tunnel
September 19, 2024 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER - After being sidelined with injuries for most of his first two seasons, redshirt sophomore wide receiver Talyn Shettron had a breakout game this past weekend in a 45-10 win over Tulsa.
An early graduate from Santa Fe High School in Edmond, Shettron broke his ankle prior to his freshman season. Then in 2023 he broke his collarbone in the spring, and broke it again in the fall as part of a game against West Virginia as he had a career game-high in receptions and yards.
Last Saturday, Shettron tallied a career-high 110 yards, highlighted by a 78-yard touchdown catch against the Golden Hurricane.
"Through all the injuries, I've always been just waiting for my moment, and I'm glad I was able to have a nice little breakout game, and hopefully there is more to come," Shettron said after his career day.
"It was pretty crazy, all my friends and all my family sending me all the pictures, sending me the touchdown, telling me congrats, I loved it," Shettron said. "I'm very appreciative for everyone to text me."
Talyn and his brother Tabry, a fellow Cowboy football player, have always shared a close bond. Throughout all the injuries, Tabry never let Talyn lose hope.
"He's always been right by my side, supporting me, and I'm the same way, supporting him," Talyn Shettron said.
After redshirting his first year and then facing two season-ending injuries, Shettron never backed down. He credits his newly found confidence and success to his faith and family.
"I feel way more confident now that I'm able to go out there and make plays for the team," Shettron said. "I give it all to God. God and my family, I wouldn't be here without them."
On the heels of an encouraging performance last week, Shettron and the Cowboys open up conference play this Saturday, welcoming the 12th-ranked Utah Utes to Stillwater.
"It's just one game. I know we've got a lot more games, like a big game coming up this weekend, so I have to put it all behind me and get ready for this game," Shettron said.
