August 22, 2024 | Cowgirl Soccer
STILLWATER – Freshman Bella Pierotti's first collegiate goal lifted Oklahoma State to a 1-0 victory over Bedlam rival Oklahoma Thursday night in front of 2,604 fans at Neal Patterson Stadium, which marked the fourth-largest crowd in program history.
With the win, 17th-ranked OSU improved to 3-0-0 on the season and continued its dominance against OU; the Cowgirls are now 32-10-5 all time against the Sooners.
OSU's defense and goalie Grace Gordon continued to shine, recording their third shutout of the season. Gordon finished with a pair of saves in the match, while the Cowgirls also recorded a team save.
OU (2-1-0) held an advantage in several statistical categories, outshooting the Cowgirls by a 17-4 margin and owning a 9-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Early in the opening half, OU attempted the first shot of the game, but Gordon made a leaping save to deflect the shot over the crossbar.
Gordon and the OSU defense continued to hold strong as the visitors outshot the Cowgirls, 9-2, prior to intermission.
But it was OSU who converted, finding the back of the net in the 39th minute. Taryn Thibeau delivered a cross to the middle of the box, where Pierotti took two quick touches and delivered a left-footed shot to the far post from nine-yards out to put the Cowgirls on top.
OU battled for the equalizer in the second half, but the Cowgirls' defense rose to the occasion. The Sooners put just two shots on frame in the final 45 minutes, with Gordon making a save in the 61st minute and OSU recording a team save at the 64:03 mark.
The Cowgirls return to action on the road Sunday at Central Arkansas. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
