Three-Time All-American Cameron Amine Joins Cowboy Wrestling
July 09, 2024 | Cowboy Wrestling
STILLWATER – Three-time All-American Cameron Amine has signed with Oklahoma State and joins the Cowboy wrestling program with one year of eligibility remaining, head coach David Taylor announced today.
Throughout the past five years at Michigan, Amine played a vital role in the Wolverine lineup and proved to be one of the top 165-pounders in the country. Amine produced a 66-25 record following his redshirt in 2020 and consistently delivered deep runs at both the conference and national tournaments. A four-time placer at the Big Ten Championships, Amine finished fourth or better in each of his appearances at the event, including a run to the finals in 2022 as Michigan claimed the team title. He also owns a 15-8 career record at the NCAA Championships, placing seventh as a freshman prior to back-to-back fourth-place results the following two seasons.
Over half of Amine's career victories have come against ranked opponents with a record of 35-23 in such matches. As part of that mark, Amine has taken down a top-five wrestler seven times and owns 11 total top-10 wins, five of which came in his junior campaign. Known for a stingy, tough wrestling style, Amine has surrendered bonus points just once in his career along with five pins, four technical falls and six major decisions of his own.
This past season, Amine went 16-9 and placed fourth at Big Tens for the second year in a row en route to the No. 10 seed at the NCAA Championships. There, he upset Oklahoma State's seventh-seeded Izzak Olejnik to reach the quarterfinals, but ultimately fell one win short of his fourth-straight podium. He was also named to both the Academic All-Big Ten and NWCA Scholar All-American teams, a feat he's accomplished in four consecutive years.
A native of Brighton, Mich., Amine was a three-time state champion and four-time finalist for Detroit Catholic High School. He went 40-0 as senior to conclude his career with a 167-15 record and received Michigan's Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award, presented to the state's top wrestler based on athletic success and scholastic achievement. He was also a six-time All-American in Fargo and named the 2019 MHSAA Male Wrestler of the Year.
