Former Cowgirls Sinclaire Johnson and Chase Jackson Set to Compete at U.S. Olympic Trials
June 27, 2024 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
STILLWATER – Three former Cowboys and Cowgirls will be competing in the second weekend of the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials looking to make their first Olympic teams.
Back-to-back Shot Put Outdoor World Champion Chase Jackson (nee Ealey) is aiming to make her first Olympic team in the red, white and blue after becoming the first American woman to win a world championship in the Shot Put in 2022. Jackson also holds the American record in the event and is a two-time Diamond League winner, in addition to her silver and bronze medals at the 2022 and 2024 indoor championships.
Jackson will be competing in the Shot Put First Round Friday night starting at 9:15 p.m. CT, with the top 12 athletes moving onto the final after three throws each. The Shot Put Final is Saturday at 7:50 p.m. CT, with the top three athletes moving onto Paris if they have the Olympic standard or enough World Athletics ranking points.
Former Cowgirl national champion Sinclaire Johnson will also be attempting to make her first Olympic team for the U.S. in the 1,500 Meters after making the last two world championship teams, including a run to the world championship finals in 2022. Johnson opens Thursday in the 1,500 Meter First Round at 7:23 p.m. CT, with the top seven athletes in each heat plus the next three fastest times advancing to the semifinals.
The 1,500 Meter Semifinals are Friday at 7:53 p.m. CT, with the top five athletes in each semi plus the next two fastest times advancing to Sunday's final, where the top three would qualify for the Olympics if they have the standard or enough points.
Rounding out the field is Alex Maier, who will be competing in the 5,000 Meters at his first U.S. trials. Maier recently finished his Cowboy career as an eight-time All-American and was the 10,000 Meter Runner-Up at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Championships. Maier is in the first heat on Thursday night, with the top six placers plus next four fastest times to the final, which would take place Sunday night.
