Kilfoyl Named Big 12 Pitcher of the Year, Four Others from OSU Garner All-Big 12 Recognition
May 08, 2024 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER – Big 12 Pitcher of the Year Lexi Kilfoyl and fellow first team all-conference performers Karli Godwin and Caroline Wang highlight a group of five Cowgirls who collected All-Big 12 honors as the conference announced its yearly awards today.
Ivy Rosenberry earned second team All-Big 12 honors, with Godwin and Rosie Davis both selected to the All-Big 12 Freshman Team.
Boasting an earned run average of 1.11 through the regular season to rank third nationally, Kilfoyl led the conference in ERA, victories (21) and shutouts (six) while ranking second in strikeouts (114) and opponent batting average (.172). The Land O' Lakes, Florida, native made school history as the first pitcher to sweep the Big 12 and Wilson/NFCA Pitcher of the Week award three different times (Feb. 27, April 2 and May 7).
Kilfoyl is the third Cowgirl hurler in the last four years to win the Big 12 Pitcher of the Year award.
In addition to being formally recognized as the league's best pitcher, Kilfoyl was also a unanimous selection to the All-Big 12 first team, joined by Wang and Godwin, with the former also a unanimous selection. This is Kilfoyl's second consecutive year in which she's garnered all-conference honors.
In Big 12 play, Wang leads the team with a .395 average, 10 home runs, four doubles and 25 RBIs. On the season, Her 17 long balls ranks 19th in the nation and third in the conference. The NCAA Division I active career leader in at-bats (791), Wang has already set the OSU single-season home run record by a catcher. This marks the third first team all-conference selection of Wang's career, as the Liberty transfer earned those honors twice at her previous school.
Godwin, a TUCCI/NFCA DI Softball Freshman of the Year Top 25 finalist, has 13 home runs to set a new single-season freshman school record, and that total is fifth in the nation among freshmen. In conference play, she ties for the team lead in RBIs with 25, and has six doubles to go with nine homers. Additionally, Godwin is one of only three freshmen in the Big 12 to have double-digit totals in home runs and doubles.
Rosenberry is enjoying a career year this season, evidenced by her first-career all-conference selection to the All-Big 12 second team. Posting an earned run average of 1.68 in the regular season, the Virginia Tech transfer is on pace to set career highs in ERA (1.68), wins (13), shutouts (3), strikeouts (89) and opp. batting average (.218).
Davis, a freshman out of Readyville, Tennessee, bats .329 with nine doubles and seven home runs. She bats .514 with runners in scoring position and .422 when batting with two outs.
Oklahoma State begins postseason play at the Phillips 66 Big 12 Softball Championship, with a first-round matchup against BYU set for 11 a.m. Thursday in Oklahoma City, with fans able to stream the game on ESPN+ or listen on the Varsity Network app.
