Cowboy Basketball lands Arkansas transfer Davis
May 06, 2024 | Cowboy Basketball
A speedy, athletic combo guard with a reputation as one of the SEC's top defenders, Arkansas transfer Davonte "Devo" Davis is the latest addition to Steve Lutz's Oklahoma State men's basketball roster.
Â
The 6-foot-4 lefty was a 2023 SEC All-Defensive Team selection and helped Arkansas to a Sweet 16 and two Elite Eight appearances over four seasons in Fayetteville (2020-24). He has one year of eligibility remaining.
Â
"Devo is a great person from a great family, and he has an incredibly engaging personality," Lutz said. "Cowboy fans will see some of that same energy out on the basketball court. He is a multi-dimensional athlete who plays with effort and purpose on both ends. He's made big plays in big moments over the course of his career, and I'm confident he'll do the same here at Oklahoma State."
Â
Davis appeared in 132 games with 85 starts for the Razorbacks and totaled 1,118 points, 527 rebounds and 314 assists (ninth-most in program history). He was also a three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll selection.
Â
Davis was at his best in the postseason, averaging 13.3 points and 5.4 rebounds in the Hogs' eight NCAA tournament victories. He scored 25 points in a 2023 second-round upset of No.1 seed Kansas and made a last-second shot to defeat Oral Roberts in the 2021 Sweet 16.
Â
A highly decorated recruit, ranked as high as 86th in the Class of 2020 by ESPN.com, Davis was named state player of the year by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and co-player of the year by Hogville.net (alongside eventual OKC Thunder draftee Jaylin Williams). He averaged 21 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists and three steals as a senior while leading Jacksonville High School to the 5A state finals.
Â
Davis becomes the fourth transfer to choose Oklahoma State this spring, joining a 2024 signing class that includes guard Arturo Dean (FIU), forward Robert Jennings (Texas Tech), forward Marchelus Avery (UCF) and high school guard Jeremiah Johnson (PHHoenix Prep).
