Oklahoma State head coach Steve Lutz has hired veteran Jeremy Cox as assistant coach.
Â
"I'm pleased that Jeremy and his wife, Cindy, will be joining us in Stillwater," Lutz said. "Jeremy is a friend, a family man and very well-respected throughout college basketball. He's won a national championship as a head coach and been an assistant at the highest levels. We'll benefit from his knowledge and more than 30 years of experience leading and mentoring young people."
Â
Cox was the 2006 NJCAA National Coach of the Year after guiding Arkansas-Fort Smith to a title before transitioning to the Division I level as an assistant under Billy Gillispie, Doc Sadler, Stan Heath and former OSU assistant Kyle Keller. His 33-year resume includes stops in the Big 12, SEC, Big East and Big Ten conferences and a summer tour with USA Basketball. He's spent the past three seasons as Joe Golding's associate head coach at UTEP.
Â
Over the years, Cox has worked with 16 players who went on to reach the NBA. He was the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches' 2017 Division I Assistant Coach of the Year while serving as associate head coach at Stephen F. Austin, and a 2020 Stadium survey identified him as the top assistant coach in the Southland Conference.
Â
In addition to UTEP and SFA, Cox has been on staff at Southern Miss (2014-16), Texas Tech (2012-13), Nebraska (2011-12), South Florida (2009-11), Kentucky (2007-09), UTSA (1993-97) and Paris Junior College (1992-93).
Â
Cox put together a 224-68 (.767) record in nine seasons as a head coach at College of Southern Idaho (2013-14), Arkansas-Fort Smith (2003-06), Garden City (Kan.) Community College (1998-02) and North Dakota State College of Science (1997-98).
Â
The Wyoming native and 1991 Colorado Mesa graduate started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at the University of Wyoming. He and his wife, Cindy, have two children -- Austin and Kaili.
