May 25, 2024 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Oklahoma State outdoor track & field qualified four more athletes for the NCAA Outdoor Championships on the final day of the NCAA West Prelims Saturday.
Cowgirl middle-distance superstar Billah Jepkirui got the day started for OSU in the women's 1,500 Meters, punching her ticket to her second straight NCAA Championships in the event with a second-place finish in her heat. Jepkirui controlled the race from the front and closed hard during the final 400 meters. The NCAA indoor Mile runner-up will look to earn her third All-America honor of the year after also finishing seventh at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
Fellow middle-distance stud Gabija Galvydyte followed Jepkirui's performance with her own dominant performance in the 800 Meters. The Big 12 champion and defending NCAA runner-up in the event tailed Stanford's Roisin Willis and cruised to a second-place finish, which secured her spot at nationals with a time of 2:01.12.
Over in the field, Big 12 indoor champion Winny Bii clinched a spot at the NCAA Championships with an
Impressive leap of 13.73 meters in the Triple Jump. Bii's jump is an all-conditions school record, which she also owns from her jump at the African Games earlier this season.
Rounding out the evening, Taylor Roe punched her second ticket of the weekend in the 5,000 Meters with a second-place finish in her heat. Roe doubled back from winning the NCAA West Prelim title in the 10,000 Meters on Thursday. She is looking to add to her already impressive career resume, competing in two events at the NCAA Outdoor Championships for the first time.
The Cowboys and Cowgirls will travel to Eugene, Ore., for the NCAA Outdoor Championships from June 5-8, with 19 combined athletes competing for OSU.
