Cowgirl Softball advances to Super Regionals, defeats Michigan 4-1

STILLWATER – Karli Godwin and Lexi McDonald both hit home runs as the No. 5 seed Oklahoma State softball team defeated Michigan, 4-1, Sunday at Cowgirl Stadium to advance to the NCAA Super Regionals.
The win improves the Cowgirls to 47-10, while the loss finishes the Wolverines' season at 43-18. OSU now advances to its fifth-consecutive Super Regional.
Oklahoma State jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single from Tallen Edwards.
An RBI single from Michigan's Keke Tholl tied the game back up in the bottom half of the inning.
The Cowgirls regained the lead in the second on a solo home run from Lexi McDonald.
In the fifth, Karli Godwin blasted her 14th home run of the year to give the Cowgirls a 4-1 advantage they would never relinquish.
Offensively, OSU was led by Edwards (2-for-3 with an RBI), Godwin (1-for-4 with two RBIs) and McDonald (1-for-2 with an RBI).
In the circle, Lexi Kilfoyl improved to 24-3, hurling her second complete game of the weekend and striking out eight. Lauren Derkowski fell to 19-10 for the Wolverines.
Over the weekend, Jilyen Poullard's three home runs was the most by an Oklahoma State player in a NCAA regional during the Kenny Gajewski era. Kilfoyl picked up wins in all three contests. The right-hander totaled 19 innings and 21 strikeouts, while only giving up two earned runs.
Oklahoma State welcomes Arizona to Cowgirl Stadium next weekend for a best-of-three Super Regional with a spot in the Women's College World Series at stake.
