April 09, 2024 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State Softball's Caroline Wang has won Louisville Slugger/NFCA National Player of Week and Big 12 Player of the Week honors, it was announced today.
Wang swept the weekly awards after helping lead the Cowgirls to a series sweep over Houston this past weekend. In three games against the Cougars, Wang went a combined 7-for-9 (.778) with two doubles, four home runs and 10 RBIs, including a career-high seven RBI in the series finale. In the 10-2 victory on Sunday, Wang became the first Cowgirl to record seven RBIs in a game since Madi Sue Simpson on Feb. 22, 2019 and became the 33rd Cowgirl in school history to hit multiple home runs in the same game.
The Paris, Tenn., native elevated her home run total to 15 on the season, which is tied for first in the Big 12 and sixth in the nation. Additionally, Wang has now set the school record for most home runs in a single season by a catcher, with 15.
This marks the first career Big 12 weekly honor of her career and the first time she's been named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player of the Week.
This week's sweep marks the second-consecutive week a Cowgirl has swept the Big 12 and National weekly awards, with Lexi Kilfoyl earning Wilson/NFCA DI Pitcher of the Week and Big 12 Pitcher of the Week honors last week.
Wang and the Cowgirls return to Cowgirl Stadium tomorrow at 6 p.m. against Tulsa. Fans can stream the contest on ESPN+ or tune in on the Varsity Network app with Bill Van Ness on the call.
