Messaoudi Breaks Arkansas Meet and Facility Record at John McDonnell Invitational
April 20, 2024 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Oklahoma State outdoor track & field traveled to Waco, Texas, and Fayetteville, Ark., for the second time this season each for the Michael Johnson and John McDonnell Invitationals.
The performances were highlighted by Fouad Messaoudi, who broke the John McDonnell Invitational and Arkansas Facility records in the men's 1,500 Meters with his time of 3:37.33. Messaoudi already owns the fourth-fastest time in the NCAA this year from the Bryan Clay Invitational last weekend at 3:36.08, but his time this weekend would also rank seventh in the country this outdoor season.
Right behind Messaoudi was Alex Stitt, who broke his previous personal best in the event by 2.5 seconds with his time of 3:38.35 on Friday. Stitt's time ranks No. 11 in the NCAA this season and moves him up to No. 6 on the program's all-time list in the 1,500 Meters.
On the women's side, four Cowgirls likely earned NCAA West Prelim qualifying marks in the 1,500 Meters as Lilly Lavier, Cameron McConnell, Stephanie Moss and Grace Boone finished within a half-second of one another as Lavier took the heat victory at 4:18.59.
In the men's 800 Meters, the Cowboys put two in the top three overall as Mehdi Yanouri and Hafez Mahadi finished first and third overall with times of 1:47.49 and 1:48.77, respectively.
Action in Arkansas is wrapped up for the weekend, but the Cowboys and Cowgirls return in Waco Saturday for multiple sprints events. Middle-distance stars Billah Jepkirui and Gabija Galvydyte will also compete at the Oregon Relays in Eugene against several professional athletes in the women's 1,500 Meters.
