Brian Musau Named Big 12 Athlete of the Week Following Record-Setting 5K Performance at Bryan Clay Invitational

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State distance runner Brian Musau was named Big 12 Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for his record-setting performance at the Bryan Clay Invitational this past weekend, the conference announced Wednesday.
Musau's come-from-behind victory broke the meet, facility and school records in the 5,000 Meters with his time of 13:13.29, breaking Cowboy Olympian Tom Farrell's 12-year-old program record by over two seconds overall. The freshman's mark ranks first in the NCAA and first in the world this outdoor season, in addition to being the sixth-fastest time in NCAA history outdoors.
His mark also adds another impressive line to one of the best freshman resumes in program history, including a national championship as the leadoff leg of the Cowboy Distance Medley Relay indoors, an individual Big 12 cross country title and an eighth-place finish at the 2023 NCAA Cross Country Championships, which helped lead the Cowboys to their fifth NCAA team title.
