Cowgirl Equestrian’s Hogan and Roberson Earn Big 12 Riders of the Month Honors
April 10, 2024 | Cowgirl Equestrian
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State equestrian's Riley Hogan and June Roberson have been named March's Big 12 Riders of the Month for their respective events, the conference announced Wednesday.
Hogan earned the Fences honor, while Roberson claimed the Horsemanship accolade. It's both riders' first time earning the recognition in their careers.
With their accomplishments, OSU now has six recognitions among six riders in the 2023-24 season, the most since 2022. The six different Cowgirls to earn the conference's monthly honor is the most by an OSU team since 2017.
The Fences MOP of the Big 12 tournament, Hogan went 3-1 in March, with all three of her wins coming against Big 12 opponents. Her MOP in the tournament was her third of the season in Fences and fifth overall.
She scored 87 or more points twice in March with a comfortable 13.33 average point win differential. Her most important point tally of the season came in the title meet against TCU, where she helped lead the Cowgirls to a 5-0 sweep of the Horned Frogs in the event, the second time this season OSU's Fences squad blanked TCUs.
Her 87.33 points that day was the highest of all riders in Fences in the championship round. The Cowgirls outscored the Horned Frogs by 50.3 points, and Hogan's 20.66-point differential against her opponent was the highest on the day. It also accounted for over 40 percent of the 50.3-point group advantage.
Roberson has boosted her reputation as one of the highest-scoring Western riders for the Cowgirls. In March, she dipped below 76 points only once, but was only .33 points away from that mark. Her average for the month was 75.96, comfortably the highest of all OSU Horsemanship riders.
Her high scores are not surprising, as she has scored at least 75 points in nine of her rides this season. She earned her first MOP of the season at UC Davis and was the highest scorer among all riders. She accomplished that feat again in the Big 12 semifinals round against Fresno State with a 76.17-point performance.
