Golden Named Big 12 Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week Following Record-Setting Performance
April 10, 2024 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State track & field multi-event athlete Bailey Golden was named Women's Big 12 Outdoor Athlete of the Week after her dominant performance in the Heptathlon at the Jim Click Shootout in Arizona this past weekend.
The award is the second of Golden's career, following her performance in the Heptathlon at last year's Jim Click Shootout. Golden is the first Cowgirl in program history to be named Big 12 Outdoor Athlete of the Week on two separate occasions and represents two of the program's four honors overall. Savannah Camacho (April 5, 2017) and Natalja Piliusina (May 6, 2015) are the other two Cowgirls to receive the honor.
The senior from Choctaw, Okla., separated herself from an impressive Heptathlon field in Arizona that included multiple All-Americans by winning four of the seven events overall on her way to breaking her own school record with 5,887 points on the day. Her mark cleared her previous personal best by 82 points and currently sits No. 3 in the NCAA and No. 5 in the world.
A former basketball player for Oklahoma State, Golden has forged an impressive career on the track, twice qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the Heptathlon. She also helped carry the Cowgirls to their first-ever track & field conference title at the 2022 Big 12 Indoor Championships, scoring 21 points by herself, which ranks second in program history at one singular conference meet.
