McReynolds and Bagby Claim Monthly Conference Honors
March 06, 2024 | Cowgirl Equestrian
STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State equestrian's Grace McReynolds and Tristan Bagby have been named Big 12 Riders of the Month for their respective events, the conference announced Wednesday.
McReynolds earned the accolade in Fences, while Bagby shares the honor in Reining with TCU's Giorgia Medows. It's the first monthly conference award for both OSU riders in their career. They join Claire McDowall and Emma Filiatreau as the third and fourth Cowgirl to earn the monthly conference award this season.
February has historically been kind to the Cowgirls, with now 17 total riders of the month since 2012. Of them all, six instances have been in Fences and four in Reining, including McReynolds and Bagby.
In February, McReynolds came alive in Fences to start the spring. The senior went a perfect 3-0 at the resumption of the season with an average score of 85.67 per ride and one MOP, her first of 2023-24. She averaged a point-differential of 22.17 in her victories.
In her MOP performance against No. 3 SMU, McReynolds tied a career-best 87 and was the highest scoring rider in the event. OSU has now claimed the February monthly honor in Fences for the third-straight season, with McReynolds following Sydney North and Sydnie Ziegler.
McReynolds' momentum carried into March, where she remained undefeated in the spring, added a second MOP and broke her career record score with an 88 at Fresno State.
Bagby led the Reiners by starting the spring season undefeated at 3-0. It's the first time she's gone undefeated in a month with at least three meets. She scored a season high 72 points against SMU, which sits at the fifth-highest score among all Cowgirl Reiners this season.
The sophomore helped OSU's Reining squad claim the team advantage in two of the three meets in February, including a team score of 3-0 against Baylor. Bagby is the first OSU Reiner to be named rider of the month in February since Hannah Mitchell did so in 2018.
Bagby is just the third OSU Reiner to earn the accolade in February in program history, joining Mitchell and OSU's all-time winningest rider Katy Krshka. Bagby and freshman Filiatreau are the first OSU duos to win the monthly honors since 2018.
The Cowgirls are back in action for the postseason, starting with the conference tournament in Waco on March 29-30.
