Cowboy Basketball falls to Texas Tech in home finale
March 05, 2024 | Cowboy Basketball
STILLWATER – John-Michael Wright made his 300th career three-pointer, but a slow start dashed Oklahoma State's hopes for a grand Senior Night finish.
The Cowboys missed their first 10 shots and never recovered, falling 75-58 to Texas Tech on Tuesday evening at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Playing his final home game, Wright put up 11 points on 3-of-9 three-point shooting. His streak of 13 straight games with multiple threes is now the second longest in school history – four shy of Obi Mueonelo's 2009 record.
Eric Dailey Jr. scored 10 of his team-high 12 points in the second half, during which OSU shot 53.8% and outscored the Red Raiders 41-37.
Unfortunately, the damage was already done.
Pop Isaacs scored 19 points and Darrion Williams added 18 for Texas Tech (21-9, 10-7), which opened the game with a 12-1 run and led by as many as 23 points late in the first half.
OSU was 6-of-28 from the field going into halftime and found itself in a 38-17 hole.
Wright's 300th triple with 15:14 to go in the game started a 9-0 Cowboy run that cut the margin to 50-35 with still 13:00 remaining.
Dailey made a three to get it to 52-38 with 11:35 left, but Chance McMillan put a stop to the run with a dunk and a three-point play off a Robert Jennings steal.
It was one of 13 thefts for Texas Tech.
The Red Raiders shot an even 50% for the game on 7-of-21 three-point shooting and were an opportunistic 12-of-13 at the foul line.
OSU ended the night at 37.0% while hitting 6-of-28 from long range and 12-of-17 at the stripe.
Brandon Garrison had eight rebounds and a pair of blocks.
Texas Tech's victory was its first since 2019 and just its sixth all-time in 33 total visits.
The Cowboys finish out the regular season Saturday at No. 20 BYU (8 p.m. CT, ESPN+).
