Top-Ranked Cowgirls Win Bedlam, Complete Weekend Sweep

NORMAN, Okla. – The top-ranked Oklahoma State women's tennis team took down No. 20 Oklahoma, 4-1, Sunday afternoon at the Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman, Oklahoma.
The win improves Oklahoma State to 19-0 overall, capturing its best start to a season in program history, and 8-0 in conference play. The loss drops the Sooners to 10-5 overall and 5-2 in conference action.
Cowgirls Kristina Novak and Safiya Carrington opened doubles with a convincing 6-2 win over Ava Catanzarite and Chloe Noel.
In a top-10 doubles matchup, No. 8 Anastasiya Komar and Ange Oby Kajuru claimed the doubles point with a 6-3 win over No. 3 Dana Guzman and Alina Shcherbinina.
Court two was left unfinished as Cowgirls Ayumi Miyamoto and Raquel Gonzalez trailed No. 55 Zdena Safarova and Julia Garcia-Ruiz 4-5 before being cut short.
Singles play opened with Oklahoma's No. 39 Garcia-Ruiz topping No. 10 Komar 6-4, 6-4 on court one. Court three was next to finish, as the Cowgirls reclaimed the lead with No. 65 Lucia Peyre's win over No. 95 Shcherbinina 6-3, 6-1.
Up 2-1, No. 77 Carrington defeated No. 50 Florencia Urrutia in straight sets 6-4, 7-6 (7-2). Needing one point to clinch the match, Oklahoma State's No. 81 Ayumi Miyamoto took down Chloe Noel, 3-6, 6-2, to clinch the bedlam win for the Cowgirls.
Both courts two and six were cut short due to the victory. On court two, No. 4 Kajuru led No. 34 Guzman 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 2-1, while on court six, Novak led Emma Staker 3-6, 6-3, 5-4.
The Cowgirls will be back in action with a pair of matches next weekend against West Virginia on March 28 and Cincinnati on March 30.
