Cowboy Baseball Clinches Series With CMU
March 02, 2024 | Cowboy Baseball
STILLWATER – Brian Holiday shined as Oklahoma State clinched a series win over Central Michigan with an 8-1 victory Saturday at O'Brate Stadium.
With the win, the Cowboys improved to 6-4, while Central Michigan fell to 3-8.
Holiday picked up his first win as a Cowboy with a season-high eight innings of work. The right-hander racked up a season-best nine strikeouts and allowed just one run on three hits.
Offensively, Kollin Ritchie tallied a career-high in hits, going 3-for-4 with a triple and an RBI, while Carson Benge also had three hits and drove in two runs. Jaxson Crull delivered a three-run bomb early to mark his second consecutive game with a home run.
The Cowboys also did damage on the basepaths as they collected seven stolen bases, including three by Lane Forsythe. It was the most steals in a game for OSU since it had eight against Incarnate Word on March 1, 2016.
Benge opened things up for OSU with an RBI triple in the first inning, and he scored on a throwing error on the play to give the home team a 2-0 lead.
Crull extended that lead with his three-run homer to left-center field in the second inning. A senior, Crull entered the series with just one home run in 117 career games.
After CMU plated its only run of the contest in the third, the Pokes added to their lead on a Ritchie RBI single in the third and then went up 7-1 on Benge's RBI hit in the fourth.
Holiday finished the contest with 107 pitches before yielding to Robert Cranz, who worked a scoreless ninth to seal the win.
The two teams round out their weekend series Sunday at O'Brate Stadium with a 1 p.m. first pitch.
