KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Oklahoma State junior Javon Small didn't need long to carve out a reputation as one of the Big 12's most versatile playmakers, earning honorable mention all-conference honors on Sunday following a debut season in which he ranked among the league leaders in scoring (14.9), assists (4.2) and defensive rebounds (4.4).
Small -- a South Bend, Ind. native and East Carolina transfer -- missed the season opener but has started each of the 30 games since, averaging just under 33 minutes. The 6-foot-3 point guard has handed out five-or-more assists in 13 of those contests and topped 20 points on five occasions, highlighted by a career-high 34-point outing in Saturday's finale at BYU.
Small sports a 1.36 assist-to-turnover ratio and ranks second on the team with 30 steals. His .864 free throw percentage (108-of-125) would be the fourth highest in school history on more than 100 makes, and he's also knocked down 56 threes on 36.8% accuracy.
