Cowboy Golf Fourth In Hawaii After First Day of Action

KOHALA COAST, Hawaii – Oklahoma State's men's golf team opened with an 18-under total of 270 on Thursday at the Amer Ari Invitational to stand alone in fourth place at Mauna Lani's North Course through 18 holes.
The Cowboys got a record-tying performance from freshman Preston Stout en route to their spot on the leaderboard at the par-72, 6,913-yard layout. OSU finished the day three shots behind Texas Tech for third, while Arizona State grabbed second place at 265 and North Carolina paced the field at 262.
Stout matched the school's 18-hole scoring mark with a 10-under 62 to stand a shot clear of the field. Starting his day at the par-5 second, he carded a birdie before posting four consecutive pars. He tallied his second birdie of the day at the seventh. Stout added pars at Nos. 8 and 9 before catching fire at the 10th with an eagle. He followed with a par at the 11th before reeling off six consecutive birdies. He closed the back nine with a par for an 8-under 28.
He would close with a par at the first to join Eugenio Chacarra, Jordan Niebrugge, Morgan Hoffmann, Jonathan Moore and Hunter Mahan as Cowboys to card 62s.
Senior Jonas Baumgartner and fifth year Rayhan Thomas each carded 69s to finish the day tied for 37th place. Each player carded five birdies on the day on the way to their 3-under totals.
Freshman Gaven Lane's 2-under 70 tied him for 49th place.
Classmate Johnnie Clark carded a 78 to stand in a tie for 116th.
A trio of Cowboys are competing individually at the event.
Sophomore John Wild posted four birdies and an eagle to stand in a tie for 22nd place with his 4-under 68.
Fifth year Hazen Newman and senior Bo Jin each carded 78s to finish among the group tied for 116th place.
Fifth year Dillon Stewart was slated to compete individually but withdrew due to injury.
