Cowboy Basketball joins the #Fight4Literacy vs. UCF

STILLWATER -- In partnership with Champions for Literacy, the Oklahoma State men's basketball team will host its first ever #Fight4Literacy on Wednesday night when the Cowboys take on the UCF Knights at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Head coach Mike Boynton Jr. and members of the OSU coaching staff will wear green wristbands and pins during the game to raise awareness and support for literacy efforts within the local community.
Nationwide, only 32% of third-graders are reading at grade level. Children who aren't reading proficiently by the fourth grade are more likely to face challenges with poverty, the justice system and obtaining jobs or health care.
"Illiteracy affects all of us," Boynton said. "Partnering with Champions for Literacy allows us to invest in the future of Oklahoma students – who are the future of our school, our state and our country. We hope our fans and alumni will join us in this fight."
OSU is one of more than five dozen schools from around the country who are hosting a Fight For Literacy Game this school year.
"The Fight for Literacy is truly a movement," said Jason Baker, Executive Director of Champions for Literacy. "We know how crucial it is for young kids to learn to read, and active, committed partners like Oklahoma State are truly helping bring a big voice to this issue by showing their support. Their influence can and will create meaningful impact in the lives of students. But anyone can fight for literacy, and this partnership really helps bring the issue front and center in their community and among Cowboy Basketball fans. We hope it creates a long-term impact."

Formed in 2013 by two high school students, Champions for Literacy aims to raise awareness of and support solutions to the widespread problem of illiteracy.
