FORT WORTH, Texas – Oklahoma State's seventh-ranked equestrian team fell to No. 1 TCU, 14-6, at Bear Creek Farms on Friday.
With the loss, OSU drops to 4-6 on the season and 3-2 in conference play. TCU improves to 10-0 and remains undefeated in Big 12 action. With one conference meet remaining on the year, head coach Larry Sanchez has one more opportunity this season to earn his 70th career Big 12 win.
"I like the effort that we put forward today even though the end result was not what we wanted," Sanchez said. "We still have a lot of the season left and we will take what we learned today to prepare for our next meet."
The meet began with Fences and Reining.
The Reining squad had another solid performance for the Cowgirls, highlighted by four 70-plus point performances and three wins. It's the fifth time this season Reining claimed the team advantage. Ava Bush scored the highest among the OSU Reiners with 71 points, marking her second consecutive win and fourth-straight 70-plus point performance.
Abby Budd and Tristan Bagby scored 70 points each and earned wins in the process. Budd is in the win column for the first time this spring, while Bagby's momentum continues with her fourth-straight ride victory. Budd took home her second MOP of the season after narrowly beating her opponent by one point and securing the Reiners team advantage.
Grace McReynolds highlighted the Flat event, scoring OSU's lone point with a dominating 84-40 win over her opponent. It's her fourth win of the season in Fences as she starts the spring season undefeated.
After an intermission, the meet continued with Flat and Horsemanship. The Cowgirls lost both matches in the team category, 4-1
Hannah Dodd tied an OSU record with a 92-point performance in Flat and was OSU's only scorer in the event. Competing in only her third career ride, Dodd joins Katie Pelzel, Maggie Drysch and Carly Barrick at the top spot on OSU's leaderboard. Dodd's arrival into the starting lineup has paid off for the Cowgirls as she's started her season 3-0
Claire McDowall reentered the win column with a victory against Jessica McAllister. McDowall picks up her eighth win of the season and has scored at least 75.5 points in each of her spring rides.
The Cowgirls are back in action next week with a doubleheader in California. Fresno State will conclude the regular season conference schedule on March 2, and OSU will face UC Davis the next day.
