Cowboy Wrestling Signs Second-Ranked Recruiting Class
December 04, 2024 | Cowboy Wrestling
STILLWATER – Head coach David Taylor and the Oklahoma State wrestling program announced its 2025 signing class on Wednesday, which is ranked second in the country by FloWrestling and features 10 total wrestlers.
The Cowboys lead the nation with eight signees ranked inside FloWrestling's Top 100 Big Board, a group that's spearheaded by blue-chip prospects LaDarion Lockett, Landon Robideau and Sergio Vega, who make up half of the top six overall spots. Of the 10 wrestlers in the class, six are in-state products while the others hail from Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Arizona and California.
Stillwater native LaDarion Lockett headlines OSU's signees as the top-ranked wrestler at 165 pounds and third overall prospect in the class of 2025. One of the sport's most coveted recruits regardless of class, Lockett has seen success at nearly every level, including a gold medal at the 2023 U17 World Championships and a U20 World runner-up finish this past summer. He is also a three-time Oklahoma state champion and owns wins at both the Walsh Ironman tournament and Fargo Nationals throughout his career.
Joining Lockett in the top six is Robideau and Vega, who are both rated atop their respective weight classes and helped bolster Oklahoma State's class with their commitments this fall. Projected to wrestle at 149 or 157 pounds in college, fifth-ranked Robideau has excelled at St. Michael-Albertville High School, winning three Minnesota state titles and setting the state record for takedowns as a junior. Robideau has continued to impress as of late with victories at Who's Number One and the Super 32 Challenge in recent weeks. Meanwhile, sixth-ranked Vega has had an outstanding 2024 campaign out of Sunnyside High School with Who's Number One and Super 32 Challenge wins as well, in addition to a title at Fargo Nationals over the summer. He's won multiple Arizona state championships and is expected to compete at 141 or 149 pounds in Stillwater.
Kody Routledge, Ronnie Ramirez and Austin Johnson all committed to Oklahoma State this past summer to give it six recruits ranked in the top 50. A local product out of Edmond North High School, Routledge is the country's 26th-ranked prospect and was a U16 Fargo champion in 2022. Ramirez spent much of his career at Walnut High School under the radar despite three trips to the California state finals, which resulted in two championships, but has since risen to No. 43 in the class of 2025. He projects to compete at one of the lighter weight classes, unlike 50th-ranked Austin Johnson, who wrestles at 215 pounds for Muncy High School. Johnson has spent the past seven years training at M2 Training Center, leading to a successful high school career in which he won a 2023 Pennsylvania state title and has posted high finishes at several of the sport's toughest tournaments.
Ishmael Guerrero and Beau Hickman give Oklahoma State two more recruits ranked in the Top 100 at Nos. 81 and 90, respectively. Guerrero carries on a strong family legacy as the son of former Cowboy wrestler Eric Guerrero, who won three NCAA championships and was a four-time All-American. Hickman arrives in Stillwater from Tuttle High School, where he's won three consecutive Oklahoma state championships.
In-state signees Kruz Goff and Ethan Teague round out the Cowboys' 2025 class having combined for five Oklahoma state championships. Goff's junior season at Blackwell High School saw him pin all three of his opponents at the state tournament en route to a first-place finish, while Teague will complete his high school career at Stillwater after three seasons at Tuttle, where he went 78-8.
