Brian Musau Named USTFCCCA Midwest Region Athlete of the Year After All-American Campaign
November 26, 2024 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State distance runner Brian Musau was named Midwest Region Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) following a dominant sophomore cross country season, the organization announced Tuesday.
This was the sixth overall and third straight year a Cowboy has been given the Bill Bergan Award as Midwest Athlete of the Year, with Alex Maier (2022) and Denis Kipngetich (2023) winning the last two. Musau earned All-America honors for the second consecutive season as he placed fifth overall at the NCAA Cross Country Championships this past weekend, marking the second straight season Musau finished in the top 10 at the national championships (eighth in 2023).
In addition to his performance at NCAAs, Musau successfully defended his crown at the Big 12 Cross Country Championships, becoming just the third Cowboy in program history to win two conference championships on the grass, joining John Halberstadt (1972-73) and German Fernandez (2008, 2011).
During his two seasons in the orange and black, Musau has only finished behind another conference opponent one time at either the conference or national championships and it was teammate Denis Kipngetich at the 2023 NCAA Championships on their way to winning the team title.
