November 02, 2024 | Cowgirl Soccer
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Fifth-seeded Oklahoma State dropped a 5-0 contest to No. 4-seed BYU in the Big 12 Championship quarterfinals Saturday at CPKC Stadium.
With the loss, the 22nd-ranked Cowgirls fell to 14-4-3, while BYU is now 9-5-5.
BYU jumped out to an early lead when Mika Krommenhoek found the back of the net just 69 seconds into the match following a failed clearance that resulted in a shot from 12 yards out.
Krommenhoek would score again just under four minutes later. A diving Gordon knocked away a cross into the box, but the ball went right to Krommenhoek, who buried a shot from eight yards out to the far post to make it 2-0.
The Cougars made it 3-0 in the 22nd minute when leading scorer Allie Fryer connected on her 10th goal of the season, taking the ball from a defender and delivering a shot from the top corner of the box to the near post.
Fryer would pick up a brace with her second goal in the 29th minute, and BYU took the 4-0 advantage into halftime.
BYU increased its advantage to 5-0 with a goal from Mackenzee Vance in the 48th minute.
OSU finished the match with a 13-11 edge in shots, with corner kicks even at five apiece, but the Cowgirls were shut out for the fifth time this season.
The Cowgirls will now await their NCAA Championship fate. The field of 64 teams for the NCAA tourney will be revealed Nov. 11, with first-round play being held on campus sites Nov. 15-17.
