Brennan Presley: Rewriting history
November 14, 2024 | Cowboy Football
Brennan Presley etched his name at the top of Oklahoma State's all-time receptions list last week, passing Rashaun Woods' previous record of 293 with a 10-catch, 75-yard performance TCU.
Presley also joined elite company with the performance as he became the fourth Cowboy in school history to surpass 5,000 career all-purpose yards.Â
"The (players with) five thousand yards are Barry Sanders and Thurman Thomas, two NFL Hall of Famers, and Terry Miller, who finished second in Heisman voting, and then him (Presley)," head coach Mike Gundy said. "To be the all-time leading receiver and have over five thousand total yards, the guy should be an All-American. I don't say that a lot about players, but he's special."
The Tulsa, Oklahoma, native is living out his childhood dream, not only playing for his favorite team but also breaking records and seeing his name alongside some of the all-time greats. Over the course of his five-year career as a Cowboy, the 5-foot-8, 175-pound wide receiver has accumulated 5,045 all-purpose yards, a feat no one else has accomplished in more than three decades.
"They told me the other three people I'm in there with and I grew up in Oklahoma as an OSU fan and just hearing those names, being mentioned with those people over, not a game, but a career, it means a lot to me," Presley said.
For Presley, this is just the beginning. Rather than the recognition, Presley is focused on making the most out of the last two games of his collegiate career.
"Everything I've done to get me in this position, I can't stop now because of what I did or what I've done. I have to keep going. It's definitely an honor. I don't want to downplay that, but it's something I'll think more about after the season," Presley said.
Ollie Gordon II, a fellow OSU offensive great, spoke to Presley's unselfishness and focus on the team rather than personal stats.
"I'm really proud of him," Gordon said. "He's one of those people who put everyone before himself. He wasn't really focused on the record. He didn't really care. He's a great player. He deserves it all."
In his 20th season at the helm for the Cowboys, Gundy has seen many players come and go, but not many like Presley.Â
"He's a very humble, great person and a great ambassador for Oklahoma State," Gundy said. "He's just different. There won't be a lot of guys like him."Â
Although No. 80's five-year career here as a Cowboy is coming to an end, his legacy will live on forever.
