Cowboys Head To Texas For Big 12 Match Play Tournament
October 06, 2024 | Cowboy Golf
HOCKLEY, Texas – Oklahoma State's men's golf team will be back in action this week when play gets underway at the Big 12 Match Play Tournament at Houston Oaks Country Club.
The three-day event will feature three rounds of pool play before bracket play and the championship round at the par-71, 7,007-yard layout. The Cowboys will be one of 15 Big 12 institutions in action with Arizona not participating due to a preexisting scheduling conflict. Teams were ranked and seeded by the league's coaches.
Six Cowboys made the trip with sophomores Ethan Fang, Gaven Lane, Eric Lee and Preston Stout being joined by freshmen Filip Fahlberg-Johnsson and Brady Catalano.
The Cowboys will be the event's No. 2 seed and will headline Pool B which also features No. 7 Kansas, No. 10 Kansas State and No. 15 UCF. OSU will square off with UCF on Monday morning before facing K-State during the afternoon session. The Cowboys will close pool play Tuesday morning against the Jayhawks.
All individual matches within the team match will produce a result and will not be played beyond the 18th hole. An individual match win awards that team with one point and an individual match that remains tied after 18 holes awards each team with a half point. Once all individual matches are completed within a team match, the team with the greater point total will receive three points while the losing team receives zero points. If the match is tied at the end of all five individual matches, both teams receive one point. Upon the conclusion of pool play, the top-ranked teams from each pool will face off in the Tuesday afternoon semifinals, with the championship match taking place Wednesday morning. Teams who do not win their pool will have consolation matches to complete the event.
Johnnie Clark and John Wild will head north to compete at the Grier Jones Shocker Invitational in Newton, Kansas this week as well.
Live scoring for both events will be available at golfstat.com.
