OSU Cross Country Opens Postseason Action with Trip to Waco for Big 12 Championships

THE BASICS
Oklahoma State cross country enters postseason play with the Big 12 Cross Country Championships at the Cottonwood Creek Golf Course in Waco, Texas.

RUN IT BACK
The top-ranked Cowboys will be competing for their fifth straight Big 12 title on the grass against one of the top fields in the country, including No. 2 BYU and No. 4 Iowa State alongside a host of talented individual athletes. OSU won the team title last season with a dominant, 30-point victory over No. 3 BYU, with Brian Musau taking home the individual crown as just a freshman. This season, the Cowboys won both the Cowboy Jamboree and Weis-Crockett Invitational meets with Musau and Denis Kipngetich picking up the wins on their home course.

On the women's side, the Cowgirls have won two of the last three conference crowns on the grass and enter the Big 12 Championships ranked No. 18 in the USTFCCCA poll. Last time out, the Cowgirls split up and won the Weis-Crockett Invitational while the top group traveled to Madison, Wisc., for the Wisconsin Pre-Nationals, where they placed 12th overall in a loaded field that included 15 top-25 squads.

At last year's championships, OSU swept the individual titles with Taylor Roe and Brian Musau dominating the proceedings.

In the polls, the Cowboys have held the No. 1 spot in each of the five polls in the 2024 season thus far after taking home the program's fifth NCAA title in 2023. They have appeared in every USTFCCCA cross country poll since 2020, having not been ranked outside the top-10 since 2019. Similarly, the Cowgirls have now been ranked in 31 consecutive polls dating back to 2020.

In FloTrack's individual rankings, five Cowboys appear in the top 11 with Denis Kipngetich (No. 4), Brian Musau (No. 6), Fouad Messaoudi (No. 9), Ryan Schoppe (No. 10) and Victor Shitsama (No. 11). Laban Kipkemboi is also ranked in All-American territory at No. 36 overall.
