Cowgirl Equestrian Defeats Baylor in Home Opener

STILLWATER, Okla. — Oklahoma State's fourth-ranked equestrian team defeated Baylor, 12-6, Friday afternoon at Pedigo-Hull Arena. Â

With the win, the Cowgirls improved to 3-1 on the year with a 1-1 record in Big 12 competition, while the Bears fell to 0-2 overall and in the Big 12. For OSU, it extends its home record against the Bears to 21-0 and 14-straight overall. It's also head coach Larry Sanchez' 38th win against Baylor, the most wins he has against any team in the NCEA.

OSU's Riley Hogan earned her 51st and 52nd career wins, moving her into fifth place in program history in all-time victories. She passes Cowgirl legends JoJo Roberson and Samantha Harrison on the list.Â

The Cowgirls continued to rack up MOPs, earning all four in the meet. This is the first time this season OSU has accomplished this feat. OSU has earned at least three of the MOP selections in each of its four meets this season.Â

The meet began with Fences and Reining, where the Cowgirls claimed the team advantage in both events.Â

The Fences squad dominated Baylor, claiming four of the five available points. It's the second time this season OSU claimed the team advantage in Fences and the first time earning four or more wins.Â

Mackenzie Carreras scored the first point for the Cowgirls in Fences. Freshman Gable Gering earned her first-career win, scoring an 82.5 to beat Emma Covarrubias. Bella Holway continued her Fences success, defeating Juliette Earley, 82.5-72.5.Â

Hogan earned her 51st career win by defeating Lauren Reid with an event-high 85 score. Hogan moves to 4-0 in Fences this season and earned her third-straight Fences MOP. This marks the 14th MOP honor of her career.Â

In Reining, the Cowgirls secured their third-straight win in the event, 3-1. Â This is the second time this season OSU has held its opponent to a singular point in Reining.Â

Ava Bush led the way for the Cowgirls with a season-high 71.5-point performance. This was her second win of the season, and Bush earned MOP honors for the first time in her career.Â

Abby Budd and Quincee Clark scored the remaining points in Reining with a pair of tight wins. For Clark, it's her fourth-straight win as she continues her perfect season thus far. It's her 26th career win, and she holds the most wins by any Reiner this season.

After an Intermission, the meet resumed with Flat and Horsemanship.

In Flat, the teams tied at two apiece. Hogan tallied an OSU point by defeating Madison Mitchell, 79.5-73.5, as she earned her second MOP of the day and fifth of the season. She has been awarded the honors 15 times in her career.Â

The other Cowgirl point came from Gering with a score of 75.5. Hannah Dodd and Caroline Mirts both lost their rides, 77-73, and 78-75.5, respectively. Bella Holway tied with Lauren Jorgensen at 75.Â

OSU finished the competition with Horsemanship, winning the event, 3-2. McDowall continued her perfect season with a win over Anna Thron, 77.75-73.75. She moves to 4-0 on the season and earned her fourth-straight MOP honor. She now has 12 in her time at OSU.
