October 16, 2024 | Cowgirl Soccer
STILLWATER – For the second consecutive week, Alex Morris is the Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
Morris, who was also named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week, helped lead the Cowgirls to a pair of wins in week nine as she shined on both ends of the field and OSU extended its unbeaten streak to five matches.
The senior wingback played 148 minutes in the two matches as OSU reached 13 shutouts for the season, the third most in program history and its most since 2009.
Also spearheading the attack, Morris recorded goals in both games, the first time in her five-year career she has scored in consecutive matches, and tallied four shots.
Both of Morris' goals were game winners as she scored in the seventh minute of the 3-0 win over Houston and had the only goal of the match with Cincinnati in the 27th minute.
Morris now has three goals on the season, which marks a career high. She entered the year with two goals in her first four seasons.
The selection marks the fourth time in Morris' career she has won Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honors, an OSU program record. She also earned the award twice last season.
The Cowgirls have now been honored with seven Big 12 weekly awards this season. Morris and Grace Gordon are both two-time winners, while Mollie Breiner (defensive), Bella Pierrotti (freshman) and Ellie Geoffroy (defensive) are also on the list.
