Cowgirls Rise to Third in ITA Rankings
January 24, 2024 | Cowgirl Tennis
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State's women's tennis team rose two spots to No. 3 in the latest batch of ITA rankings that were released on Wednesday.
The top-three ranking is the highest in program history, adding to an already impressive list of accomplishments for this year's team that includes the highest preseason ranking in program history (5) and the highest individually ranked Cowgirl in program history (Ange Oby Kajuru at No. 2).
The Cowgirls are coming off two of their biggest non-conference home wins in program history, first defeating then No. 4 Michigan, 4-2, before handling No. 14 Ohio State, 4-1.
Lucia Peyre was named Big 12 Player of the Week for her efforts in the two season-opening wins, as was announced on Tuesday. She and teammate Raquel Gonzalez have won the award in back-to-back weeks for the Cowgirls to begin the season.
Oklahoma State now looks ahead to ITA Kickoff Weekend in Des Moines, Iowa, where they will open against No. 12 UCLA on Saturday. The Cowgirls will then face either Iowa State or Old Dominion on Sunday, depending on Saturday's results, with the opportunity to advance to the ITA Indoor National Championships if they can go 2-0 on the weekend.
