August 18, 2023 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
STILLWATER – Several current and former Oklahoma State track & field athletes will be competing at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, from August 19-27.
World Champion Chase Ealey (Shot Put) will attempt to defend her world title on Saturday, Aug. 26, after becoming the first American woman to win world title in the event last summer. Ealey is also currently the top-ranked woman in the world in the Shot Put heading into the championships, tied with Canada's Sarah Mitton atop the World Athletics Leaderboards.
Joining Ealey in Budapest in the USA camp are former Cowgirl national champions Sinclaire Johnson (1,500 Meters) and Kaela Edwards (800 Meters). Johnson took home the NCAA title in the 1,500 Meters in 2019 and won the U.S. national championship in 2022 before finishing sixth at the world championships last summer in Eugene, Ore. Edwards took home the NCAA title in the indoor mile in 2016 and is making her first appearance at the world championships for Team USA after finishing third at the U.S. Championships in July.
Current Cowgirl Gabija Galvydyte (800 Meters) qualified for the world championships after winning her seventh career national title in July. Galvydyte broke Johnson's school record in the 800 Meters at the European Athletics Team Championships in June and has finished runner-up and third at the last two NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 800 Meters.
Joining Galvydyte for Team Lithuania is Ieva Zarankaite (Discus Throw), who threw for OSU from 2014-17, was a second-team All-American in 2017 and is a 12-time Lithuanian national champion.
The World Athletics Championships will be broadcast on NBC for the first two days and will move to the USA Network for the rest of the championships. Live results for the meet can be found here.
