Cowgirl Soccer Scores 4-0 Victory In Season Opener

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State's attack was led by a pair of freshmen, and the Cowgirls shut out Stephen F. Austin in a 4-0 victory in the 2023 season opener at Neal Patterson Stadium Thursday night.
OSU has now won eight consecutive season openers and is undefeated (9-0-1) in its last 10. The Cowgirls also improved to 5-0 all time against the Ladyjacks.
The freshmen tandem of Lauden Wilson and Adelhia Ghonda lead the charge for the Pokes, with both tallying a goal to go along with an assist.
Grace Gordon and Ary Purifoy combined for the shutout, recording three saves on 10 shots.
In the 13th minute, Hannah Chance cashed in the first score of the game, with the assist from Wilson.
At intermission, the Cowgirls led 1-0 after taking 12 shots, four on goal. OSU was stout on defense, allowing only two shots, with Gordon logging one save through the first 45 minutes.
The Cowgirl offense came alive and finished chances in the second half of play, scoring three times.
Ghonda assisted Wilson in the 50th minute to put the Cowgirls up 2-0 early in the second half, and Ghonda expanded the lead when she knocked in a goal in the 59th minute, with Megan Haines tallying an assist.
Less than four minutes later, an Alex Morris cross led to a Logan Heausler header for the fourth OSU score.
The Cowgirls will return to action Sunday with a road contest at Missouri State.
