STILLWATER – Oklahoma State's men's golf team had a pair of players earn GCAA All-America Scholar honors for their work in the classroom this past season, with Jonas Baumgartner and Hazen Newman both receiving the distinction.
To be eligible for GCAA All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, II and NAIA, or receiving their associate's degree in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA.
In addition, they must participate in 40 percent of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, under 78.0 in NCAA Division II, under 79.0 in NCAA Division III, under 78.0 in NAIA and under 77.0 in NJCAA.
They must also maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.
The selection was the second for Baumgartner, a junior from Bielefeld, Germay, while Newman, a senior from Las Vegas, was chosen for the first time.
Additionally, Baumgartner and Newman were joined by senior Dillon Stewart on the 2023 Spring Academic All-Big 12 squad's first team.
Junior Bo Jin, fifth years, Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen and Leo Oyo as well as sophomore Jordan Wilson were all named second-team selections.
The team recognizes the academic accomplishments of student-athletes at conference institutions that participate in spring sports.
First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second-team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
