Pokes Pod: Ollie Gordon
August 11, 2023 | Cowboy Football
Ollie Gordon made an impact for the Cowboy football program the moment he stepped onto the field. He joined the Pokes Pod for a chat about his freshman season and what he has on tap for an encore.
As a true freshman, Gordon played in every game and ended the year as the third-leading rusher on the team, averaging 4.9 yards per carry. His 136 rushing yards against West Virginia was the most for any Cowboy in a single game in 2022.
In the Pokes Pod excerpt below, Ollie Gordon discusses what he learned from his freshman season with the Cowboys.
HOST:Â How hard is it to be a leader in only your second season with the team?Â
GORDON:Â It's really hard 'cause at this point I'm young and I don't want to step on the older guy's toes. But then again, if I feel something's right, I'm gonna say it. But you know, I take it, I listen, and I learn from what they're saying. I just flip it and use it how they're saying it.Â
HOST:Â What did you learn about yourself last year as a freshman at Oklahoma State?Â
GORDON:Â I would say for myself, I learned that I have to work for everything. That's what I would say. There were times when stuff wasn't going the way I wanted it to, but I couldn't quit. I couldn't go back home. So I had to sit through it, tell myself everything was good, and then made it through there.Â
HOST:Â How hard was that for you?Â
GORDON:Â At first it was like, what am I doing wrong? What is it that I'm doing wrong? And I just sat back and thought, right now it's not the time. Your time is coming, the time is gonna come. So I just sat back and let everything cook.Â
