STILLWATER – Several current and former Oklahoma State track & field athletes will be competing at the USA Track & Field Championships and U20 Championships in Eugene, Ore., from June 6-9 with tickets to the world championships in Budapest, Hungary, on the line.
Defending U.S. champions Chase Ealey (Shot Put) and Sinclaire Johnson (1,500 Meters) will attempt to defend their titles this weekend and punch their second straight ticket to worlds. Ealey is also the defending world champion in the Shot Put, becoming the first American woman to win gold in the event last summer. Former Cowgirl national champion Kaela Edwards will also be attempting to represent the U.S. in the 800 Meters, with first round competition on Thursday.
Former Cowboy Josh Thompson also made the U.S. team last summer in the 1,500 Meters and is attempting to earn his way through to Budapest. Another former Cowboy great, Craig Nowak, will be competing in the 3,000 Meter Steeplechase in the first round on Thursday.
Two Cowboys who competed for OSU this past spring will be joining the rest of the former Cowboys and Cowgirls in Eugene. OSU distance legend and five-time All-American Isai Rodriguez will be making his last appearance in a Cowboy uniform Thursday and Sunday as he competes in the 10,000 and 5,000 Meters. Current Cowboy Mehdi Yanouri will also be running in the 800 Meters after his impressive breakout campaign in the orange and black. Yanouri broke the 37-year-old school record in the 800 Meters and earned first team All-America honors in the event at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in June.
Alongside action at the USATF Championships, three Cowgirls will be competing in the USA U20 Championships, also held in Eugene.
