Cowboys prep for Spanish exhibition tour
July 19, 2023 | Cowboy Basketball
STILLWATER -- The Oklahoma State men's basketball team begins its foreign tour countdown with a series of 10 NCAA-allotted practice sessions over the next three weeks.
Â
The Cowboys are headed to Spain from Aug. 5-15 with scheduled stops in Madrid, Valencia and Barcelona.
Â
"This foreign tour is a great opportunity for our team to begin the process of learning how to help each other have success," head coach Mike Boynton said. "The summer practice time will be beneficial as we work in all of our new personnel. I want to thank Chad Weiberg and the rest of the administrative leadership as well as our supporters for helping make it all possible."
Â
NCAA rules allow teams to take an international tour once every four years. Previous OSU squads toured in 2018 (Rome/Venice/Athens) and 2012 (Spain).
Â
In addition to extra practice reps, an OSU roster featuring nine new scholarship players will benefit from early tests against three international opponents. Off the floor, players will enjoy bonding time and a series of unique educational and cultural opportunities in a nation famous for its history, beauty and cuisine.
